no Paul, you could ahve bid for it, it was too modern for me, I give up in 1896 anything after that is modern crap s far as I am concerned.

I used to collect the 1897 iussue and still have the invert in a corner block of 4 and a couple of singles.

MispalcedDECIMAL POINT in price, postage a little overcharged.

But, apart from that....

One would have thought the seller would have learnt something!!

Paul, yes we disagree, I never mentioned orphans and widows, I mentioned naive stamp collectors, some of which were so dissalusioned by being robbed by your " friend " they are no longer interested in collecting.

D1,

if you are in a hurry to find out, you can always check this site, it must be on there somewhere, good luck,

DAVID B. -------We disagree ,there were mostly high feedback buyers who were buying not widows and orphans .The lots started around $10.00 a piece and many sold at the opening bid. On one lot if real catalog about $3,000 and I won the lot at opening bid of 9.99 .Now if people thought they were real ,these people have serious issues . Yes he was a friend and we talked a few times on this chat room ,seems friendly .

You have a hard time understanding some collectors are born to be cheated ,they would never buy a decent stamp at a fair price and would never bid against other bidders ,they live for the bargins and want something for almost free or they ain't buying .These collectors are buying only when its too good to be true and most of the time its not true ......

I have been in contact with 100's of buyers of which none were dealers or resellers as well as spoken in person to at least 20 worldwide and all of them were of the opinion that the items were genuine. Some of them were experienced collectors and were fooled with the various Specimen handstamps. As far as I am concerned they were all naive but that is why he got away with $100,000's.

I can also blame Ebay for not booting him earlier as they ignored plenty of articles about his fakes in many philatelic magazines worldwide. If Ebay had a stamp maanger who knew anything about philately he would have been booted within days instead of years,

I don't know whether you are trying to change history or have forgotten what happened.

He originally made fake overprints which he sold as ORIGINALS and then progressed into making computer replicas which he also sold as ORIGINALS later on he hand perforated them but those were also sold as ORIGINALS. None were ever sold as works of art.

DAVID B. ------Interesting story that you linked . But I have to say I see a parrell from that story to what we had on e-bay a few years ago from our friend in Florida who was making fakes of stamps .

He never sold them as originals ,but as works of art and who were the buyers not youngsters or beginner collectors but the e-bay sellers who had feedback numbers in the hundreds if not a few in the thousands .So anytime soon we will be seeing "classical forgeries " or "research forgeries " being offered for sale .Another area, they will be sold as part of larger auction lots with some dumb note that they are unknown plate proofs .But it will surface in your life time as something and sold for a few bucks apiece ....paul

Hi Vic...long time no chat. The research project I was contemplating when we met down your way is FINISHED. I set myself a 3 year time limit, it took 2 1/2. I did not set a page limit, so was a bit surprised after running the automatic page numbering routine to find it peaked out at over 800!

Said to myself: No way can you afford to release this in print form, its got to be on CD ROM. So far the feedback from clients has all been positive. Maybe now I can get back to normal, or knowing me, I will press on with other research and writing, but nothing of that magnitude.

Anyhow, my comment below yours is a direct lift from one of the chapters.

Michel, it is nice to see a post from you. It has been a long time. Sorry if you have been posting recently. I have been busy at work and not checked the board for several months. This is the first post I have seen from you in years. I know many of us were worried when you had the heart problem and did not post for some time. I am glad you are better, and posting again. Do you still collect Liberia? I remember when you asked about anyone who collected Liberia, and I checked what I had. You prompted me to begin my collection of Liberia in earnest then, and that has continued to date. I have been inactive with stamps for a while due to work and other constraints, but plan to get back one of these days. I hope you are better, and wish you luck. Welcome back to the board.

There was no rocket mail in conjunction with the Century of Progress. These are total fantasy items produced in the early 1950’s by a Chicago dealer who found rolls of gummed paper of the kind used to seal parcels. Two types are known, a 25 Cent in brown and a One Dollar in orange, the orange being much more common. They are known as mint singles, or applied on uncacheted covers and cards from the fair in an attempt to enhance the card or cover’s value.

sayasan… I have Stompsoft as my spyware program, which warns me with a big white screen that spyware has been detected and is trying to worm its way onto my hard drive. The program is very good—in the year I have been using it nothing has gotten through, although it is due for renewal and the warning message tells me that the company no longer supports my version. I have a pal who is an ex-IBM tech who gave me the software in the first place and he says he can fix it.

I try (although not always very hard or successfully) to give others the benefit of the doubt, and soccers_cn1 may be just an innocent conduit of something he knows nothing about. Having had the bad experience with his show-and-tell links I have not tried to enter his blog. I reported a post of his to eBay once as containing malicious code and it was removed almost immediately, then the next time nothing was done.

Good morning Miss Lindy. Glad you had such a fun time with your granddaughter.

Richard W Like I said previously I never click on any links that I'm not sure about. I for one don't know when spyware is attempting to deliver itself. Like most I rely on my firewall to prevent such attacks happening. Then of course if any do get through to be purged forever (hopefully) when the computer does the weeekly checks automatically.

Maybe the computer savvy amongst us here can offer better tips to prevent such things happening and perhaps how to tell when they are being attempted. I'm only guessing but I assume security settings etc play a part in all this.

It's possible also of course that the FDC links aren't intended spyware or even spyware at all but the best person to answer that would be "soccer" yet strangely nothing heard from him/her since the whole spyware thing has been discussed.

sayasan… My mention of the FDC posts by soccers_cn1 wasn’t a gratuitous slap—the link to his “newest FDC” always leads to spyware trying load on my computer.

If it were somebody interested in FDCs that wanted to share, fine, but this guy receives a “new” one every day (Sundays and holidays too) so I’m pretty sure there’s more going on that just “sharing”.

Apologies if I’m wrong, don’t think so though…

Richard / Sayasan I'm sure no offence was meant by the FDC comments. If offence was caused by my own post then I unreservedly apologize. But perhaps if "soccer" would tell us a little more about what he finds so interesting rather than direct all to a daily blog the black philatelic humour wouldn't be here.
I also have not clicked on any links by his posts as I'm wary of possible spyware being or attempting to download itself onto my computer.

Hey, asbestos wearers - lay off soccer. The guy apparently has a sincere passion for genuinely mailed fdc's, as opposed to the official faked up versions, which some here might applaud, and he takes the trouble to share his interest. What's wrong with that?

I went to Midpex (Coventry, UK) last weekend. It was well supported, but at 58 I felt like one of the youngsters. The place was full of snowy headed geriatrics and old geezers barely able to hobble about. We ought to be encouraging new collectors, not disparaging them. And Asia - China in particular - is the future of philately, believe me. So many younger Chinese collectors don't have the sophisticated background knowledge that we enjoy? - all the more reason for passing it on.

Re: Double posts
Earlier this spring I got a new generic keyboard (Kensington) and it didn't take long for various keys to get "sticky", such as delete key, return key, and a couple of others. At the same time, for the first time ever, I got a left click-right click mouse. What a pain inthe butt! So many times I move my mouse on the pad and my middle finger accidently clicks the rihght clicker. I used a single button mouse for 20 years and of course, never had the problem, nor the need. Now I get things happening automatically, and little windows opening that I have no interest in using. Call me old fashioned but the two button should not be on the same plane.

My guess is that Lloyd would win the pool );>), so I won't bother participating. Some FDC's are pretty, but unaddressed collectables do nothing for me and as far as I'm concerned have nothing to do with philately. They are contrived collectables with little resale value. The only FDC's that seem to have any long term value are those from over 70 years ago, or were created by an artist. Most today have little artistic value, therefore, little collectable value, especially when they can be produced over a period of months by the postal service.

I search for Switzerland, Schwiez, Suisse, Swiss, etec, etc in "Stamps" category for exactly the same reason. Seller are limited to two categories, but if they make accurate, complete ddescriptions, their items can be found in my searches. The items I never find are those where the seller lists within a category and FAILS TO MENTION THE COUNTRY NAME IN EITHER THE TITLE OR DESCRIPTION. The only search of mine that will then find items are those searches where I use city names, etc. The seller has left out the obvious because they are listing by category and assume everyone uses eBay categories! Dumb mistake on seller's part.

I must add that most of my searches use the "Advanced Search" which brings in many international items. Then I have "Advanced Search" in a couple of other eBay sites, where the instructions are mirrors of eBay.com. If the advanced search pages are different than eBay.com, I don't think I get maximum returns.

lluehhhb.....with the proliferation of items listed in the wrong category, like our Greek doofus, expanding the search is the only way to go. Then start subtracting the obvious items in the search box and you can really narrow it down to specifics. But on the plus side, an item in the wrong category can be a bargain if no body else finds it.

Milenko… I do the same thing for certain searches. A sizeable percentage of lots I am interested in are listed in the wrong category. It’s amazing that some sellers manage to sell anything.

That Greek seller has been doing that for weeks, and there was another seller repeatedly flogging a Princess Diana “keepsake” stamp album in a US category before finally giving up.

About the stamps categories,

I always look for "chile" items, but if I limit the search to the Latin America -> South America category, I'll be missing a large amount of hits, so I look under the main "Stamps" category. Subcategories are useless for me.

Vinny My advice is the English version of Michel is ok for some things but bear in mind it does not cover all the areas given in Band 1.For example many of the German Occupations of WW II are simply not included. I have no idea why not but in my opinion Michel producing an imcomplete translation of Band 1 is a waste of time and in many ways a disgrace. No English version for Band 2 yet exists. Save yourself the money and simply mail me when you need help translating any of the text from Bands 1 or 2. My own versions are from 2005 but if you give me the area ie Bundesrepublik and Michel # pretty sure I can help.

Paolo-

I sometimes think the collecting of modern (post Standing Helvetia) Switzerland is best done by buying individual stamps. My guess is that many dealers have the examples in stock. If you search and look into the eBay Staores of some Swiss and German dealers there are many images identified by Zumstein number such as 286.2.d . (I made that number up );>) You might find it more economical.

I have bought assorments looking for varieties and believe most have been picked out, especially when looking for interesting cancelations. Few exist in unsorted lots.

Vinny In one way yes it is because the value should have been printed central to the stamp design. However it is quite common for the value on all the stamps from that set to be found with misplaced values. Those with severe misplacements are much more collectable to the variety specialists. A few are even known with the value completly missing. The misplacement occurs because the set is exactly the same as the old Rosette issues, (Oct-Nov 1923) with values in Milliarden Marks & both issues had the value inserted after the basic design had been printed.

By the way Vinny did you ever get yourself an old Michel catalogue ?

Confederate Navy: There is a great Confederate Naval Museum in Columbus Georgia. Prior to my first visit there, I was not as aware, of just how important the Navies were during the "Civil War"

I wonder if there were any postal markings used on any of the ships on either side? I kinda doubt it, but does anyone here know if there were any?

Roger,
Looks like this time I f*cked a bit up with a deal of the Swiss lots I bought today: about five full stock pages of 'famous historical features' of 1941 and some other pages of 'technic features' of 1949; I bought it as a 'closed lot', hoping to find some varieties, such as re-entries on the first serie.
Even though I have a Headache horribilis right now, after the scrutiny marathon, sadly, I didn't find any re-entry (I was hoping to find at least one on the 2 franks 'Ferrer' not hoping to find the one on the 1 frank 'Pfyffer' but maybe an Urtype of the 20c. wouldn't have been out of the questions). Not even a coated paper! The problem is that I bought these pages for 30 euro, which is close, if not MUCH superior (;-)) to the value of the material in it.
Should I sue them for the headache? LOL
Well, I risked hoping for the hunchback strike, but was outta luck today.

Paolo… Indeed you are right. Neither the Virginia nor the Monitor were the first ironclads, but their 1862 clash was the first battle fought exclusively between ironclad vessels, and forever after no one could rely on wooden warships. (The Virginia, originally a US commissioned ship named the Merrimack, wreaked havoc amongst the wooden warships in Hampton Roads just prior to Monitor making its appearance.)

To keep this philatelic (a new approach for me) this stamp was issued by the US to honor the man who designed the Monitor.

Off the top of my head, though, the first built ironclad was French ('La Gloire' or something).

briguy… Yes, quite a story. The South threatened with a few more ironclads (the Arkansas, for instance) which the North feared tremendously, but they did not have the industrial base in the South to manufacture them like the North did, which churned out monitors like cockroaches. The Confederacy contracted for two tremendous seagoing ironclads which were built in England, paid for through an elaborate ruse of shell companies which made it difficult to prove that the Confederacy was the legal owner. (England suborning the production of war matériel for the South would have been an overt casus belli against the North, which the American ambassador Charles Francis Adams wore out his patience making clear to the English government.) In the end the British seized the two ships before they were finished and added them to their own Navy, although by the time they floated they were already hopelessly out of date. The Civil War was the first instance where innovation and technology created a true arms race, with one side developing new technology which would be effective sometimes only for a matter of weeks before a counter technology neutralized it. Prior to the American Civil War warfare was conducted by people—afterwards it was a game of machines.

The one thing the South never lacked for was ammunition. Right up to the end of the war they had prodigious supplies, the only real difficulty being the ability to transport what they produced.

Jim Huh? I was commenting on the brilliance of Ruby's listing a big pile of stamps from Spain in the "Confederate States" category.

As for the CSS Virginia ("Merrimack" for those of you with northern printed history books), that poor ship had more then a few brushes with death. She originally WAS burned to the waterline at her moorings and left for dead. It was the new Confederate Navy that inherited the area, raised her, and then finished her build in iron plate thus creating history's first ironclad warship.

After her famous one day battle with the USS Monitor ended in a draw, the Virginia did indeed sortie out into Hampton Roads several times again. However, the Monitor was under Presidential orders from Lincoln to NOT engage her again unless absolutely necessary. It made sense really. The union could (and was) constructing fleets of other ironclads, something the south was incapable of. The fact the Monitor/Virginia ended up just staring at each other on opposite sides of the river was a checkmate the north was happy enough with. Later in the war, when Union ground forces closed in on her home port, the Virginia's captain tried the last ditch effort of sailing her up the James river to Richmond. He was told her draft was too deep and he was told right. She ran aground in shallow waters and was scuttled (blown to bits with a massive powder charge) to prevent those pesky yankees from "re-inheriting" her once again.

So that postcard isn't all that removed from reality.

P.S. the one in the auction bears most likely a fake cancel.
The date of the cancel must be available for the cancel to have an, albeit minimum, possibility of being genuine (**genuine = original cancel device impressed within the period of validity, after the distribution to the P.O., of the adhesive postage stamp).
All the rest, included barred numeral cancellations, have always to raise suspicion and extreme precaution, and are, anyway, useless for exhibit purposes.

Milenko,
Why is the Humbert I 30c. brown is arer used? Because, by 1879 on, until about 1888, there were still huge provisions of the 30c. brown Victor Emmanuel II (type of the Issue of 1863, mostly Turin print).
This stamp could be used for a short period of time and was only distributed to a few Postal Directions.

dcderoo-- Not sure how far Camp Century was from Thule AFB. P Mountain was part of the DEW Line and if I remember about 6 or 7 miles by an uncertain road prone to weather shut down from the main base. Not a very pleasent year in the memory bank.
Posted by dcderoo   ( 1669 ) on Jul-05-07 at 08:37:20 PDT   Listings
A quick Google scan of Camp Century explains at least part of it.
Looks like they were doing ice cores to bed rock in conjunction with CRREL (Cold Regions Research & Engineering Laboratory, Hanover, NH.)
If that's the whole explanation, then it's a lot like the US Antarctic effort.
Civilian researchers supported logistically by the military.
I almost got PCS'ed to CRREL too, and to this day I rue my decision to not take the assignment.

One other point about Camp Century.
Apparently they had to periodically "shave" the trench walls.
Iomoon will certainly understand this since the process also occurs in geomorphology.
Since there was now a "hole" in the icecap, the surrounding snow/ice would "relax" to fill in the gap. Nothing to keep it in place.

rioroyal, nope. Never had dealings with Greenland, but I came close.
In '69 they were going to PCS me to Camp Century, Greenland.
As I understand (and from a few pictures) it was about 100 miles out on the icecap.
They (the Army?) just cut a BIG trench (30-50 feet deep?) in the icecap, covered it over with some sort of prefab roofing and put up huts in the bottom.
I have no idea what it was all about but they obviously needed some sort of meteorological support.
I managed to wiggle out of that assignment.
So I got PCS'ed to Fort Wainwright (Fairbanks) Alaska, instead. I suspect not a lot of difference.

About the "day/night terminator".
It really controlled what part of the country we could communicate with.
Good communications would start on the East coast and hour-by-hour move across the country.
So about 4 hours later was the end of phone patches.

And when we came up and started announcing ourselves (CQ?) we were mobbed with responses once they figured out who we were.
We'd all sit around and try to catch as many of the call letters as we could, then work our way through them.

I was at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station (Nov '68-Feb '69) which is why I mentioned KC4USN.
My father-in-law was (W2BYO and later W3PPB, now deceased.)

Anyway back to the Pole Station.
Not being a ham much of the jargon was strange to me.
The unit itself was a 1000w linear(?)
We had a 300 foot sloping-V antenna.
The two people allowed to operate the equipment for the rest of us were two Navy chiefs whose prime duty was getting aircraft safely to the Pole Station.
We'd all sit around waiting for a strong Stateside signal with a phone patch, then they'd ask if anyone wanted to call through the patch.
The one I often used was K2PPB (K2 Busy Phone Patch) in New Jersey. The guy was great. He'd come up virtually every day just to see if we had traffic for him.

I think we'd power up in the early afternoon so that we'd catch the day/night terminator in the US.
(For those of you who know this stuff, Pole Station standard time was the same as New Zealand, 12 hours off Greenwich. That might give you a better idea of when we were communicating.)
Apparently our main problem was that we were allowed to work only is a very small frequency range.
Sometimes someone would move in on us and (maybe) not know it. Then we were stuck.
But we had another great person in Costa Rica. He was our chaser.
He would politely inform them of the situation and ask them to move elsewhere on the band.
If they wouldn't he'd crank up his power (apparently he didn't have the limitations that US hams have) and blow them away.

Just reminiscing.

Next time you are at Flathead Lake try to find a Moore 24 owner. Ther used to be a fleet of Moore 24's which raced there. Then you'll appreciate our offshore racing. Just for the record I once hit 17 knots coming in under the Golden Gate Bridge and 14's were pretty frequent offshore with a 10 ft swell and 15-18 knots of northwesterly wind.

Another great day was off San Louis Obispo on the way to Santa Barbara. With a clear sky and a wonderful steady breeze we covered 58 nautical miles in 6 hours, which isn't bad for a boat with a 23'9" waterline giving it a theoretical hull speed of just over 6 knots. Gives me a chance to show my favorite all time picture again. );>)
Sparrowhawk going under the GG Bridge near the end of a Double-Handed Farallons race at about 12 knots and preparing to jibe for the St Francis finsh line. My friend Mike was at the helm and I was handling the pole, and sails, during the jibe. Doesn't get much mre exciting!

Planing is fun, not surfing which most keel boats do when they catch a wave.

Roger

BTW - Did anyone take time to watch the America's Cup racing off Valencia, Spain during the past month? It was really good. The equality of the boat speeds put them within 30 meters (that's one boat length) of each other per 3 mile leg. I hate to say it but the SWISS won again, 5-2 over New Zealand. The crew were sharp as razors.

Aloha -
True sailing story of dark and stormy night between the Farallon Islands and San Francisco.

Once upon a time during the 1980's I was racing on a 24 footer during a moonless night returning from the Farallons under full spinnaker, great sailing! We saw the running lights of a tug coming from the north ( I don't remember the masthead light pattern now when a tug is towing a barge the pattern is distinctive). We looked close and also saw a very faint white stern light on a huge barge under tow. We didn't see any bow lights on the barge. We slowed down a little and changed course to take the stern of the barge. All was well as we went behind the tug and its tow.

Next weekend we heard that a 40 footer was in the boat yard under repair. It turned out they had also seen the tug and not recognizing the significance of the lights took the stern of the tug. Surprise!!!@@@!! The keel hit the underwater tow cable and yanked the racer sideways casuing all sorts of havoc on board. It was then they realized there was a barge coming down at them about 200 yards away. They were bing dragged sideways, but finally were able to get off the cable and tack back away from the barge!

The repair was to the leading edge of the keel which had a huge semi-circle carved into it by the steel tow cable. They were very lucky sailors.

Roger - always look in both directions before crossing the stern of a tug.

So the skipper got out of bed in a huge hurray ready to get out of the way of this freighter only to find that the red light Duane was seeing was Mars rising above the horizon......................

Ham Radio and stamps etc.

I also am a very active Ham Radio operator and have been to amny different countries (some very rare in terms of Ham Radio) and have literally 10,000's QSL cards.
However, only a handful really are worth the keeping.
Ham Radio operators will look at things like:
1. The rarity of the country
2. The Band of frequencies that the contact was made on

ibidhier - If you have the envelopes, do you also have the QSL cards? And if so, will you be selling them? Look at completed auctions in collectibles/radio/qsl cards and you'll see that some sell for quite decent prices depending on (usually) the rarity of the location. Much older cards (1930's) tend to do better also. Sometimes sellers put them into the stamp categories as a second category to attract philatelists rather than qsl collectors. I occasionally buy Burma qsl cards and occasionally sell worldwide cards, and it's still a bit of a mystery to me why some get snapped up and others go begging ...!

If you already know all this, as a ham operator, just ignore it!

ibidhier to your questions:
My question: is there any value or interest in such items to a stamp collector?

YES

Would the value be more if the stamps were on or off the envelope?

MOST LIKELY ON THE ENVELOPE

Due to the postmark, does this lessen the value or interest?

ON THE ENVELOPE IT WOULD LIKELY INCREASE INTEREST

What to I call an envelope with another countries stamp on it and postmarked?

USED ENVELOPES ARE CALLED COVERS

There is always an interest in covers posted from remote locations, such as Falkland Islands rather than France. If you were to offer them on eBay I am sure they would find interest as a lot.

A description could read 200 worldwide QSL covers and a nominal opening bid of $9.99 will attract attention.

hope this helps, Jeff

peetah it is a noticeable pattern in the paper, I am home and have nothing to scan to try to show you. It is typically directional, and can be used to separate the machine made papers from the handmade which are usually the better ones.

I think I got that correct.

antonius-ra - The reason you doubt the color of the preusian blue stamp, must be due to a miscoloration of the scan. I will NEVER doubt Brun, if he say it's a preusian blue stamp, as he is one of the most knowingly experts of French stamp.
I think you would say the same to me, if I started to ask questions to an opinion from one of the most knowingly US expertizer. :O)

ibidhier,
Oftentimes QSL cards are offered here on eBay. They are frequently colorful and from interesting places. They seem to be readily saleable as complete cards. If what you have are envelopes rather than QSL cards, they should certainly remain intact. If they are from exotic places they will attract interest. The complete envelopes with cancelled stamps are of interest to postal historians. The postal markings, including the cancellation, are all of interest. While it used to be that only 'old' (before World War II - perhaps even World War I) envelopes were of particularly interest to postal historians, modern material (recent decades) is now finding a market as people try to capture the history before the market rises too much. The major descriptive term for such items is 'cover'. Then the country from which it was sent and the year would all be helpful. It may take more work but identifying the stamps - particularly if they are colorful large commemoratives - by catalogue number or at least the subject helps. Lots of people collect 'topicals.' Topicals show things in categories like dogs, maps, flags, etc. Mention of such things enhances interest.

Hello,
Let me try this again.sent unfinished inquire, my last post!
Not a collector or have no idea so I thought I would ask the help / opnions of the pro's here on eBay.
I am a "Ham" radio operator and have received many hundreds of envelopes with many various stamps from all over the world. These envelopes are in great condition with the stamps still attached and postmarked.

My question: is there any value or interest in such items to a stamp collector?

Would the value be more if the stamps were on or off the envelope?

Due to the postmark, does this lessen the value or interest?

What to I call an envelope with another countries stamp on it and postmarked?

Sincere thanks to any help offered.

Happy Holiday to all.

With kind regards,

PAOLO------Agree with you ,the name behind the transaction is sometimes more important than a certificate.

Just a note to you to let you know that I had a conversion with Dr. BOB at his store yesterday .We discussed the stamp market ,with him being one of the largest purchasers of stamps in the U.S. He stated the prices he is getting for worldwide as the best ever and his problem is finding material to purchase .He joked that when he is looking at stamps to make a bid to buy he already knows who the buyer will be ,because the demand for decent stuff is growing .His staff is the best around and he sells everything with a guarentee ,so there is no shortage of buyers .He moves a awful lot of material and enjoys what he is doing.

This brings up a important point the sellers who make a living selling stamps on e-bay have sold off most of their inventory and will be trying to restock over the summer and into the fall which will help to push prices higher ....paul

Paul,
Of course, I perfectly undertsand your point.
But the seller is one of the best experts for French stamps, thus I presumed that is a genuine example for visual comparison.

Good day all!

Several years ago, on this board there was a discussion regarding the Prussian Blue nuance of the paper of the 1c. black 'Type Sage' of France (I recall G1 and Christo also participated). I just found one good example of this rare nuance on the internet, here from this web page (there's also another one).

Ralf… I’m sure there was nothing intentional on your part, but clicking the link automatically starts the loading of software onto my computer, probably spyware but perhaps worse. Luckily I was able to abort it in time. As reperf says it is probably a function of “freenet.de”. Many, many “free” or “public” sites accept money from vendors as a way of funding their operation, but the downside is that they have to accept advertising or some of its less palatable derivatives.

inverted year for bjorn

Interesting thing about the cover is that it is a proper 3rd class mailing, hence re-mailed (not forwarded) to another individual with the addition of the half-cent adhesive, improperly giving credit to the original 1-1/2 cents third class postage.

In all a very esoteric item for the 4th bureau collector and likely worth the opening price, which at first look looks steep.

You may want to check with the KVM switch company first to make sure which KVM switch can be used for both PC and MAC. Also, it depends on whether you're using PS/2 or USB. I'm not familiar with Mac. You also need to find out whether the devices (mouse/keyboard/monitor) have any problem with KVM switch.

Using KVM switch may take away some features in your devices.

Bjornmu - morn morn. :O) I guess the Polish stamp, which Paul mentions, is the one beside with the Black Madonna. This is correct from the Polish Forces in Italy.
The one at left looks like a revenue of a kind.
Can you tell what the Norwegian stamp is (Number to left, Row 1)?

K.E   I'm a silly little man - whoopee!!

Bjorn(bjornum)

I think the Polish Stamp link that I posted to Mitch has good information.
